The photographs we see here are taken from illustrations
in my volume cited above and represent in a way ‘archaeological specimens’
of Florence’s rich trove of Latin Inscriptions. They represent both
Romanesque and Gothic periods of architectural style and span a period
of more than 700 years to the present. Scattered throughout the city
and and environs, they are quite different from what are found in
official
State Archives and private Family Archives from the fact
that they are not collected, organized and housed in a specific location.
That will be the work waiting to be done by this
project.
